Following a successful AITHM Seminar in 2015, the Cairns team of Norelle Daly, Paramjit Bansal and David Wilson teamed up with Martin Gruebele from the University of Illinois to understand how proteins fold.

Understanding how proteins fold has been investigated by scientists over time, while this paper specifically investigated how disulfide bonds in a plant peptide fold. AITHM researcher Professor Norelle Daly suggests that by understanding protein folding we can learn more about structure-function relationships, which can enhance are understanding of cellular processes.

“This insight is critical to developing new drug targets and drug leads. We can in turn apply this knowledge to further advance understanding of diseases more common in the Tropics,” Professor Daly said.

This paper made the cover of Biophysical Journal in April, congratulations to the team on this successful collaboration.
