Building Bridges to Lift a Speciality! Experience of the National Research School in General Practice in Sweden

The seminar objectives are to:

  • Facilitate the exchange of research in the field of tropical health and medicine.
  • Foster new collaborations with research, business or industry partners
  • Build and extend research networks and present research to a broad audience.

The general aim of the Swedish research school is to develop and increase research in General Practice. The specific aim is to establish a new generation of well-educated researchers in general practice with ability to collaborate with centres of excellence overseas.

The research school offers the PhD students:

  • Education which others don’t give
  • Help to build networks.
  • Experience of international teaching.30% of the education over Internet.

The research school gives the students three unique opportunities:

  • Research collaboration overseas.
  • Access to senior national and overseas scientists from outside the home universities.
  • Personal tuition on writing and getting it published in high impact journals.

Prof Lars Lindholm Bio

MD (1970), specialist in General Medicine (1975) and Public Health (1986).  PhD (1984). Professor at Umeå University, Sweden (1998-) and Awarded the Umeå University Medal for Merit and Excellence (2013). Prof. Lindholm has Published more than 200 original papers in high ranking journals resulting in >17,000 citations (Web of Science). Prof Lindholm is senior advisor at the Lancet peer review meetings (2003-) and was guest editor of The Lancet’s Hypertension Issue, (2012).
