AITHM would like to welcome Professor Maxine Whittaker into the role of Deputy Director of AITHM. Maxine will undertake the role on a 0.2 FTE basis in addition to her role as Dean of College of Public Health, Medical and Veterinary Sciences. 

Prof Whittaker, joined James Cook University in the role of Dean in February 2016. Prior to this Maxine was at the University of Queensland (2008-2016) as Professor of International and Tropical Health. At UQ, she led a number of large-scale research initiatives and centres.

Prof Whittaker has a fascinating and extensive career having lived and worked in many countries including Bangladesh, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea. Working throughout the tropics, she is committed to research and capacity building. Her primary research focus is operational and health services research and medical anthropology, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health, infectious diseases, quality of care and health seeking behavior.

AITHM would also take this opportunity to thank Emeritus Professor Rhondda Jones and her efforts in supporting the development of AITHM.
