One Health: acting as one

03 November 2016, 3:00pm - 03 November 2016, 5:00pm

JCU’s first World One Health Day Event will be held on the afternoon of the 3rd November 2016, 3-5pm at the Padua Theatre DB040-105 Townsville campus and will be videolinked to Cairns, Singapore, Mt. Isa and Thursday Island.

One Health Day is an international campaign co-coordinated by the One Health Commission, the One Health Initiative Autonomous pro bono Team and the One Health Platform Foundation.

The aim of One Health Day is to bring international attention to the need for One Health approaches to global “grand challenges”  and to showcase One Health initiatives in action around the world.

The One Health Day campaign is designed to engage as many individuals and disciplines as possible in One Health education and awareness events, as transdisciplinarity is a key element of One Health approaches. The Day also aims to inspire the further development of a wide range of One health projects and partnerships. For more information please see https://www.onehealthcommission.org/en/eventscalendar/one_health_day/

JCU will also be dedicating this annual event to the late Professor Rick Speare (https://www.jcu.edu.au/@jcu/vale-emeritus-professor-rick-speare-amv ).

JCU’s event will be panel-led and audience discussion around how discipline specific expertise could contribute to the better management of a real life scenario, preceded by afternoon tea. Each panelists will briefly talk on their disciplinary perspective on the topic ie. the value-addedness of that disciplinary approach.

We will have six speakers covering the following areas: Environmental Sciences (DTES), Veterinary Public Health (DTHM), Health Systems (DTHM), Health Promotion/Communications (DTHM), Societies and Culture (DTES); and Research (DTHM).
