This talk will describe studies characterising three poorly understood, complex illness phenotypes each featuring prominent fatigue and other symptoms, including the acute sickness response to infection, post-infective fatigue and post-cancer fatigue. Development of instruments to reliably describe the major elements of the illness complex (or endophenotypes), and studies seeking genetic associations with those endophenotypes and their biological correlates will be described.
