The JCU Three Minute Thesis Finals are on again...
This year’s event is on Tuesday 13 September 2016 at 4.30 pm for a 5 pm start on Townsville Campus at Education Central Lecture Theatre (Building 134, Room 010) and video-linked to Cairns in the Crowther Theatre (Building A3, Room 2). Video-linked to Singapore - details to be advised.
Backround
So what is 3MT??
My Thesis/Research in 3 Minutes “is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland. The exercise develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of research students' capacity to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience. Research higher degree (PhD and MPhil) students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis topic and its significance. 3MT is not an exercise in trivialising or ‘dumbing-down’ research but forces students to consolidate their ideas and crystalise their research discoveries.
So, come and support your College/Centre/Division contestants as they battle it out for the top prize.
Prizes
There are five possible prizes:
- Overall winner ($1000)
- Early Career Researcher Winner ($500)
- Established Career Winner ($500)

- HDR Student Winner ($500 + airfares and accommodation to attend the Asia-Pacific 3MT final on 30 September 2016 at UQ, Brisbane)
- People’s Choice Winner ($500) – so your votes count at the end of the program
